+P .38 Special locally

Does anybody buy .38 Special +P locally?

If so, where do you buy yours, and what brand/cost? For me, 158 grains would be best.

You can get some Sellier& Bellot +P 38 special ammo at PB Dionisio ....their anniversary sale ended last 22th Dec...but you can get the same discounts for ammo during the Gun show this coming January...Merry Xmas!..claro

Firing .357 is fine, but in a real home defense scenario, well, .357 produces a blinding flash in a dark room- even in an indoor gunrange- not to mention the loudness and the overpentration. Home defense would have to be .38 special or, preferably, the .38 +P. I'll get some at the January Gunshow.

Happy New Year, then Happy Chinese New Year (early January?) , then Happy Coup, then Happy Easter.....

For home defense, we sure could use the bullets used by air marshalls. I think they're called frangible bullets. The bullet shatters (or turns into dust so they say) on impact if they hit anything harder than itself. The main idea is that it won't over penetrate. That is also part of the reason that air marshalls go for head shots.

I just don't know if they sell that here.

be also aware that some +p s do produce a lot of flash. My load federal 125s +ps do produce a lot of flash in low light especially with a shorter barrel.

give the anti aswang bullets of twin pines a try, it produces +p velocities and expands nicely

and they are cheap too.

Oh my load is not the 125s but 129 federal premium +ps. MY revo is a M 63 S & W 3 in. .357 mags. A handful with .357 loads.

For frangible bullets, I think Glaser is the best choice. They come in many variations, which differ in the number and size of "pellets" inside the slug.
Glaser came out on top as the ammo that presented the fastest incapacitation during the Strasbourg tests where gun experts shot live goats. The fragments spewed by the glaser slug created a very large wound channel, causing quick incapacitation.
Glaser was my ammo of choice when my house gun was a 357 magnum. Less recoil but noticeable muzzle flash.

Heavy bullets tend to overpenetrate. I've had lots of good experience with NGA Eliminator. Its not very popular but this one works. Good penetration too. It may not expnd but its wadcutter profile large hollowpoint will cut a lot of tissues and arteries. I think its about P40/pop. That's what I load my .38 Model 10 and my Model 36 and when I was issued a Colt DS. Still if you want 158 grs. you'd be better served with Lead SWCHP. Same logic as the NGA, It may not expand but at least it will cut a lot of tissues and arteries and create a full caliber hole. But you risk the danger of overpenetration coz 158 grs. in .38 doesn't always expand .

I suppose I'll just wait for the January Gunshow and stock up on +P ammo then.

I think most gunstores have them. Though Im not sure about the price anymore since I've long been without a .38. Would love to have one of those Model 10 or Colt DS again someday
