Convert DVD audio to mp3?

Is it possible to convert the audio portion of a dvd into mp3 files?

I have a few instructional dvds that I would like to listern to in the car while I drive. I thought if I could somehow "extract" the audio out of them then I would be able to use it in the car or with my iPod.

TIA

Here's a guide on how to do it using some free software. I haven't tried this exact process like you describe, so I'm not sure if you can do it directly from the DVD or if you have to rip it to your harddrive first.

Can't get it to work, maybe it's "operator error"?

I'll try to mess with it over the weekend. I suspect that you need to first demux the audio track to an AC3 file.

first step is to rip it down using dvddecryptor. After that, I'd head over to:

http://www.free-codecs.com/

And see what they have.
