G-19. Only a few rounds difference and better concealability. You can't go wrong with either. If the 19 fits your hand better or as well as the 17 go 19. The grip of the 17 is a little long to me. The 19 is perfect.

Bravo,
If at all possible, shoot them both.
Take home the one you shoot the best. You will "know" which one is best for you, possibly without even looking at your targets.
The relatively small differences between the two are not really significant. What IS significant is owning the one YOU shoot the best. They are both excellent machines.

Buy whatever feels comfortable. My hand was too big for a 19. The 17 was a perfect fit for my hand but not all of my carry needs. So I got a 26 too.

Ill go down and check some out today. I know the G17 is the standard by which all others are judged, but the G19 is just so awesome. You mentioned G34....Anything notable about it?

The G19 is a more versatile platform for all around use. I'd get that. PGH~

I really like the 19 but the grip does not fit my hand so I went with a 17 and 26 with a Pearce grip extension.

+1
G17 is a better range gun. G19 is a little smaller and easier to conceal.
G19 is the best All Around Glock. But it's a comprimise gun. The G26 conceals easier, the G17 or G34 are better on the range.
If you can only afford 1 the G19 is they way to go. (for now, buy the rest later.)

I really like the G17, and is what I have. I might have bought a G19 if it was a 2nd gen but didnt find one, when I was looking so I went with a new G17.
Dont think you would go wrong with any of those choices.

The best for you is the one that fits you best.
The only way to decide is to shoot them both, and see which one you shoot best, and feels best to you.
If you are still at a tie, then what are you going to be doing with it. the 19 is a little bit easier to conceal, especialy if you are smaller of stature. I carry a G23, same size just makes bigger holes. That is what works best for me. I seem to shoot the 19/23 better than the 17/22 34/35 17L/24 Go figure that one out. The smaller size just works better for me. I just have to take a Knife to the back sight to make it wider in back so my old eyes can find the front sight faster.
Good Luck, and keep on Shootin!!;z

If it's comfortable in your hand, get the 19. If you ever need or plan to carry, this is the gun IMHO.

I just faced the same decission and...
...I chose the 17. I'll never carry it or use it for any form of defense. It's a plinker. It just felt better to me than the 19 and I was unable to even find a 34.
Just got back from the range with the new 17 and I think I made a great decission. The weight, the balance, and the burp are all a comfort to me. I shot well with it, for the first time out and I know that I'll dial it in a little tighter every time till I can shoot it as well as I do my 23 and my 21.
Good luck on what ever you decide and let us know what you decided to get.
Happy shooting!

Like other have said, shoot both and compare. I have owned 26's, 19's and have shot rented 17's. For me the 26, with pierce +0 mag extension, is the most fun and accurate. The 19 is next. I have had to remove some off the bottom of the trigger guard to make them more comfortable however. Also added slip on grips. There are lots of modifications you can do if you want too.
