M1/M2 Carbine barrels and accessories

Does anybody have an idea who sells barrels and accessories for M1/M2 Carbines. I know for a fact that there are still a lot of these carbines in the Philippines and I saw a lot with deteriorated barrels.

During the early 90's when the .30 carbine ammo was scarce, M1 Carbines were sold for only P10,000. and M2s for P14,000.00. When Armscor started to produce the ammo, prices for the carbines went up by an average of P3,000.00.

I've seen 15 rounder mags and Wolff spring sets sold at Twin Pines in Bacolod, but I had doubts about them being US made mags. The packaging looked like WWII material (looked more like greased paper) and stamped GM.

Yes, I'm also looking for accessories for my M2 Carbine. I'm so happy to find out that Armscor produces the .30 cal round.

Have you tried firing a Carbine in an indoor range? It's not loud compared to the M16, and a lot less muzzle blast too.

Not yet in an indoor range, but in our backyard a long time ago.

How do the soldiers of WWII regard the Carbine? Just heard from my Dad that it's the weapon carried by Rick Jason in the Combat series (as stated by Toby).

It is said that the ballistic and terminal performance out of the M1 carbine
aren't much different from that out of a .357 Magnum revolver.

I remember stories about Japanese patrols here not even glancing up
when they'd hear the carbine popping away at them from long distance.
On the other hand, when they heard an M1 Garand bark, they'd haul ass quick:

The M1 Garand was a real battle rifle.
IIRC, the M1 carbine was supposed to be a PDW for non-frontliners,
and as such, was more than adequate, and reliable as death and taxes.

You're right, Horge. Actually the .30 Carbine is classified as a pistol round. It was just boosted by the development of the M1/M2/M3 Carbines. It was also designed to provide more firepower than the 1911 at that time, hence the PDW designation.

However, troops found it handy in short-range encounters, so they began carrying them.

Good day mga bro! do you any idea how much is the current selling rate of m1/m2 carbine nowadays?may papel man o wala. am interested in acquiring one, dami kasi bala ng armscor .30 cal. ngayon e, hehe. Maganda rin daw iputok, less recoil daw. Wish i could fire one someday. Very good good classic gun i suppose.

About three years ago, M1s sold for P10,000.00 on the average. Maybe slightly higher for M1s in very good condition. Add about P4,000.00 for an M2. You can also buy a conversion kit in the black market. It's packed in a green, gauze-like material with a sticky anti-rust on it.

You have to look at the condition of the barrel, though. A lot of the carbines have been neglected and have severe pitting on the barrel. If I'm right, pre-1955 ammo used corrosive primers.

Otherwise, they're really good short-range guns. Muzzle blast is not that "painful" compared to the M16 when fired indoors.

When buying an M1/M2 .30 Carbine, check out the chamber also.

Remember that these are gas operated carbines.

Some old and worn out guns have already oversized chambers that the remaining gas thru the barrel could not cycle the action anymore.

Best bet would be to really do some live fire tests on the M1/M2 guns you plan to buy.

He had it setup like Jeff Cooper's scout rifle concept using a long eye relief scope except that the M1 Carbine is semi-automatic. Exactly the set up that I want in a rifle especially in an M14 with 18 inch barrel or a Ruger 10/22.

Geeesshh. I hope someone would develop a M1 Carbine in .22 magnum. Now that would really sell here in the Philippines because of the limitations on civilian ownership of centerfire caliber rifles.

A friend of mine had his Squires Bingham 22lr converted by our gunsmith into an M1 in the 1980's. Looked like the original. Fooled a lot of people thinking it was the real M1. We had fun shooting it when 22 lr was just P0.50/round.

Armscor is hopeless. It will not develop any product for the Philippine market. They only sell us surplus. So Im betting on Shooters Arms Mfg. to develop a M1 Carbine copy in .22 magnum.

You're right. Most USGI ammo that were amnufactured before that time frame did used corrosive primers. However , M1 Carbine ammo was the exception. They used non-corrosive primers for Carbine ammo from the very beginning. If the barrels on these carbines are bad, it's probably from neglect.

You can find USGI M1 Carbine surplus barrels, usually made by Buffalo Arms, for around $100 and up, depending on condition. I found a new Winchester barrel a few years ago in a gun show for $110. Back in the 80's, you can buy a imported USGI M1 Carbine for less than $200. IIRC, these carbines came back from Korea.
