First range session for 2006

Allow me to share some pix with stglock at the range. I have my old ClassicRoyal and the newer Tactical II. stglock has a new grip for his Kimber. What was it again stglock? all I know is, it works for you as shown by the big hole on your target. Besides 1911, he also test out his glock and sig. (but i saw him shooting more his 1911)

surprisingly, my older CRoyal was a better shooter. My Tactical is playing catch up as usual, but finally reached the 1,200 milestone. The external extractor (EE) is holding up; no hiccup whatsoever except...this is what happened: on my 3rd mag, on my second winchester white box, the slide locked back which means you just pop up the last round. Released the magazine and was stunned when a live round fell off. Saan galing yun? hindi naman 'to nakaload sa magazine, kung galing to sa chamber, bakit nag lock ang slide?

Anybody who can enlighten me on what happened? No big deal naman sa 'kin. Tuloy ang shooting and after that, all was fine all the way to the last of the 300 rounds. heto po mga pix:

'Kita niyo naman kung gaano kalinis yung butas sa gitna. 'galing mo, stglock! (talo ako kasi bago yung grips niya)!

Very good groups there Vicara.

As for the live round after the slide had already locked back, my guess is that the bullet head "nudged" and activated the slide lock which caused the slide to lock back.

This happens sometimes in 1911's especially when using FMJ bullets.

Thanks Vicara for the nice words. I was indeed using the *SpringCo* recoil guide rod with a built in spring both on my G19 and Springfield with Simonic Grips. I was really impressed with the results.

I happen to stop by at Target Masters on my way home and was surprised to see Vicara at our favorite range. We had a long talk about all the things he did back home last X'mas.

mukhang na-inlove ka sa bagong grip ng kimber mo. Now I remember, I saw that on the cover of American Handgunner. But t'was on a desert (beige?)color. Kinda expensive though. Anyway, I reckon, you want me to go ahead now and offer your kamagong grips for sale. Let me know so I can post in here. Any US-based BOGs interested on 2 sets of 1911 kamagong grips? Just PM me guys.(bilis ko ah)

django, that should explain the 'last round' anomaly, thank u. okay then, shall i get rid of my stock magazine? or use another brand of ammo. I'm using a winchester 230 gr fmj from walmart, comes in 100 per box. cheaper than the rest @ $19.85 a box. For years, i was using the SWC 185 gr also from winchester. Dunno' why they stop selling those. Any recommendation for a replacement?

If somebody else is interested with the Kamagong grips please go ahead and let our fellow BOGs have it,otherwise I will take them since I ordered these pairs.

If you are mechanically inclined, do the following:

1. Disassemble your gun and remove the top end (barrel and slide assembly).
2. Place the slide stop pin back in the gun.
3. Place a loaded mag (with your fmj ammo) and look at the relationship of the bullet head vis your slide stop pin.
4. If the clearance is too narrow, there is that tendendency for the bullet head to "nudge" and activate your slide stop especially during recoil where the bullet moves forward in the mag a little bit.
5. Slowly remove metal on the side only of the slide stop pin with a needle file. Never remove metal from the bottom of the pin, otherwise you will disable it permanently.
6. Caveat: metal once removed cannot be replaced so do this slowly.

If you don't want any hassles, bring the gun to a competent gunsmith.

An easier option would be not using fmj's and limit yourself to semi-wads and HP's.

okay, sounds simple enough up until step 5. I might not up to it but will take a shot just the same. i have a bad reputation of messing things up specially those 'irreversible' kind.
