It's just a means of sharing a common interest with like-minded folks. No special access or anything.
Folks get a number to "belong" to the Clubs they are interested in. Sometimes they post their club affiliations in their signature blocks, so other people know what kinds of guns and hobbies they share.
Think of it as an electronic version of a Harley Davidson t-shirt, a John Deere hat, or an NRA sticker on your vehicle...
