Any breed of dog has nature defense from ticks or fleas?

A friend of mine has a GermanShorthairPointer ( GSP ) and it can stay out all day in a back yard with dogs with ticks and it get no ticks, never have.

The owner claims it's the dog and it being a GSP is prone or immune to ticks. Anybody else have any thing to say about this?
