Hi Point Carbine = WOW

Had my 995 for quite a while now, but have mainly done some range plinking. My dad and I built a rifle range out at his ranch this weekend and we spent some time sighting in my carbine and my buddy's DPMS AR. After getting respectable 2" groups at 50 yards off-hand (the AR was poking dime size 3-shot groups from a prone position), we moved out to my dad's deer blind which was 110 yards from the target. I shot 1 round (iron sights only) and thought I missed the backstop. He walked down and told me to put the gun away, cause I didn't want to get disappointed. My buddy and I walked down there and this is what I saw.

http://home.nctv.com/scottb/110yards.jpg

I couldn't believe it. After that I shot an 10 round group, slow fire, but not taking much time and got all shots in the 5 ring or better. Here's a pic looking back at the blind from the backstop.

I couldn't believe it. I knew the gun was pretty accurate, but WOW. I ended up with four of my dad's friends saying that they were going to buy one, but this was before I shot at 110 yards.

Just goes to show that you don't need to have an expensive gun to have a great one. I wouldn't hesitate one minute now to use the gun at that range if I had to.

Edit- If a moderator wants to add the images to the post rather than links, go for it. I couldn't get it to work.

The list of "guns I want" just keeps getting longer. ;f

I think Hi Point gets dogged because their "cheap looks" - but I have never heard of one, carbine or pistol, failing to go bang when the trigger is pulled. As my Dad always said - "If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid." The HP Carbine is a sleeper, hopefully the gunbuying public won't catch on too quickly!

The gun has been out for years and is just now starting to get noticed. Good for hi point, but maybe bad for those of us on the prowl for cheap new or used guns.

No thanks. Bore snake, q-tips where I can reach and a spray of oil. Too much trouble to take down, and it's warrantied for life.

Hipoints need to be cleaned? I think I have about 2000 rounds through my 995 and have never cleaned the bore or anything. I love my Hipoint. The only reason I would sell would be to get the 40s&w version.

How hard is it to spray it with gun scrubber, and shake it couple of times?

why strip it when you don't have to??
i bought a 995 from a pawn shop for $150...it's accurate as hell and has a laser sight...i bought it because it looks like a stormtrooper's e-11 blaster rifle(huge starwars nut)...i took it to the range and it was awesome...

I especially like to take em' apart and clean em', because my life may depend on a functioning firearm.

That's actually not too ugly. Looks a lot like the Beretta Storm...

I'm sure it's also a fraction of the price. I might just change my mind about owning one if I can get it to look like that...

Certainly no question where they got the design idea from. I like it, but don't think I'll buy one. I like the idea of my totally ugly and cheap gun being able to do what it does. Wouldn't quite surprise people as much if it looked nicer and cost an extra $75 (with tax). I do like the integrated sling mounts. I haven't installed the ones that come with the hipoint on mine, but they aren't very inspiring. What do you guys think about them?

The Hi Point carbine is one of those things that works a lot better than it looks. I have always wondered why Hi Point has never came out with a Glock magazine version of the carbine since you are only limited to ten rounds with the stock mags. The new stock from Advance Tech greatly improves the image of the Hi-Point, they should adopt that stock. A stock with rail mounts on it changes the whole ballgame on this gun. It gives it the adaptabillity it needs with optics. Just hope the gun grabbers don't focus on this one.

Sorry for the double post, but what would you guys expect to pay for one of these used in good condition?

I finally got one of these. I paid $125 for it used. It came with a muzzle comp., and a sling and a mag pouch that fits over the rear of the stock.

I found a place with those ATI stocks for $50. PM me if you're interested. I'm not gonna put the site up here because they only have 9 of them and I don't get paid until friday.
