Realistic cost for rust/repaint work?
Seriously considering buying a `78 Ford F250 4x4 Supercab to fix up and use as a daily driver. Since it is a midwest truck, there is a bit of cancer on the cab corners. I'd like to have the rust cut out and new metal welded in, then the entire truck repainted a new color (1970 Ford competition blue). I will also probably have the bed replaced with a new trick aluminum flatbed, so just the cab will need painting.
In this day and age of disposeable vehicles, most body shops won't even do an estimate on a job like this. One shop I talked to said they did a similar job on a `68 Camaro and it was around $18,000 .
Since I'll be in Arizona when I get it done, I'm assuming I should be able to find a smaller shop that will do this for me. What would be a reasonable ballpark figure to have this done?
Just trying to get some budgeting done for vehicle expenses .
