Thanks for the tip guys... but as I said, we switched to new county wide radios and those come with lapel mics, no more secret service earphones.

That's a programming issue. Most agencies and/or radio shops don't activate all of the features of current radios.

You still have to press the mic button to Xmit. Stay safe.
I'm definitely one with my radio, but a remote mic is just more of a PITA for me. Our emergency button is programmed like JTipper's.

This.

Our new radios come with a Bluetooth remote PTT button/earpiece. I think I may give it a try. I should get mine on Tuesday. Now, BladeTech needs to hurry up and make me a radio holder!

I worry about the battery life of Bluetooth mics for a whole shift With the constant transmit and receiving that we do.

One of our guys is testing it and worked a 10 hour OT shift yesterday with lots of chatter. It survived the whole shift.

You are doomed.

Cochese, check out www.freelinc.com . The battery on it last for multiple shifts, it is built like a tank, and the near field magnetic connection is much better than Bluetooth. I've been using one for two years now with fantastic results.

How's it working out for you? The key for me was finding the perfect mounting spot for the alligator clip so that it kept proper tension on the coiled tube. You don't want it too tight or too loose. I wound up clipping it to the rear portion of my left vest shoulder strap (the elastic part that goes between the front and rear panels) and running the tube up my shoulder blade, up the back of my neck, and to my ear. That way I can move the clip up and down on the strap to adjust the tension as needed prior to putting on my vest. If that makes sense.

Pretty neat but they don't have anything compatible with the APX6000 yet.

Wow. It takes an act of congress to get my PD to purchase a $200 item.
