Pa. Training Group

I am looking to start up a Western PA./Eastern Ohio training group. I am based out of Pgh. and am looking for interested parties who want to train in subjects to include but not limited to : Fighting Pistol and Rifle work, Force on Force, Hand to Hand and Retention techniques, Emergency Medicine, Family Tactics and 2 'man' team tactics. I post as Cush1220 on most of the other tactical forums. This isn't just some throw together event. I have access to national certified instructors in all of these areas and more who are willing to come here and train. Some of this will be free, some of it may cost. We have a alot of members in this area who seem to want to do these things, now is the chance to get together, make some new friends and perhaps learn a thing or 2. I am not advocating this training group as a reason not to attend formal schools in the area, and i encourage everyone to take and attend local formal schools and classes.

Well i definately recommend formal training, if you cant travel then stay local and attend the F.I.R.E. Institute. What we want to do with this group is work on and practice all the things we learn at formal schools. No ONE school has all the pieces to the puzzle but by going out and working with others and lots of different "philosophies" you get more "tools" to draw from your bag of knowledge....

PF34T,

Are you planning on setting up a new training entity or do you plan to work through one of the local groups? If you just get together to practice what you train, you have to take into account the skill level of all who attend and how well all participants are schooled in the basics of safety and firearm manipulation. Range selection could be an issue as some only allow a certain # of guests before requiring that they join.

I've taken about a dozen training classes in the Pittsburgh area, mostly through the FireInstitute but also with Defense Training International (John Farnam).

The classes I started taking in 2000 cost around $300 for a 21/23 hour(3 day) class. The cost now is probably into the 350/450(or more) range dependent on who or how many trainers are brought in.

To those who plan to take formal training, figure a day off work, 600 to 800 rounds of ammo, perhaps range fees.

Is it worth it? Yes it is.

One thing is for certain. Given a set # of interested parties, you will only see a small percentage actually go through with it. Cost, time off or scheduling conflicts all affect who will put up the money to train.

I have slowed down considerably on training over the last two years for a few different reasons but hope to pick back up when I can.

Good luck,

DG
