Nimitz & MacArthur

Hello,

An old sailor died last week. The following is a true story:

F.M. Tidwell was a fine, interesting man. He was the personal driver for Admiral Nimitiz during WWII. His memory went bad but you should have seen him come alive when we took him to the Nimitiz Museum in Fredericksburg a few years ago. He could give you background history on every picture they displayed. "This was their backyard where the old man played horse shoes, this was their dog (he even remembered the dog's name), this is where Bull Halsey lived, etc." He could even remember some of the choice words that Nimitiz had for MacArthur. He once told me about driving Nimitz home late one night and Nimitz had fallen asleep. He awoke about the time they were driving by a little church with a neon light that said "He's coming soon." Nimitz woke up, saw the sign, and all he said was "that damn MacArthur."

great story and one that should be filed under if it isn't true it should be. I've heard the same thing but with IKE and Patton, and Truman and Mac.
