Vacation: visiting friends in NC
In June, I'll be going up to NC to visit a friend that I
haven't seen in years. She lives in Cherryville, which is
between Ashville and Charlotte.
I'm already thinking...Biltmore Estate and Great Smokey Mtn Railroad.
What else should I be looking forward to seeing/doing in the area?

The N.C. mountains are gorgeous. If you just get on the parkway it seems like there is something to see every few miles. If you are a hiker, the appalachian trail goes from Maine to Atlanta. Indian history all through the mtns-See Cherokee, N.C. (casino there too if interested) Right out of Asheville on the parkway you go straight up to Mt Mitchell, the highest point east of the Miss. river. It would take 20 pages just to scratch the surface of things to see and do there.

I concur, take a drive and make a few stops on the parkway. It would be a little bit of a drive but if you make a day out of it you could go do some hiking on Grandfather Mountain.
Not the best picture but you can at least get an idea of the view.

just don't become a statistic...
the Great Smokey Mountain National Park is the most visited National Park in America...HOWEVER, over 90% of the visitors never get out of their cars...
if you head up to Asheville, check out the Grove Park Inn...very historic...maybe grab a meal there...

Now you are talking my area. Biltmore is a nice place to visit. I use to work for their company police so I know quite a lot about the estate if you have any questions. The Smky Mtn Railroad is also a good visit as well. If you dont already know that is where they filmed the train wreck scene and hospital scene in The Fugitive. I have lived in this area all of my life so if you have any questions about anything just let me know.
