ATF at Whittakers

I went to Whittakers gunshop today. The place was swarming with ATF agents. They were examining guns and going through huge stacks of 4473 forms.

Give them a break. Same thing that happens to every FFL dealer. Every two or so years ATF comes in and goes through everything and makes sure all records are accurate and guns are in order. Standard procedure.

BATFE does not do annual audits... that being said usually just one or two agents would usually be involved...

Every legal gun shop in the US gets audits by the ATF on a regular basis. It may or may not be once a year but if you have been in business very long you have been audited.

Speaking from personal experience, I had a gun business for 18 years and was never audited. I never ever saw an ATF agent. I was even a class III dealer for three of those eighteen years. They called me when they needed to trace a gun but that was all.

Every local gun dealer in our area has been audited at least four times in the last 5 or 6 years.

I work part time in a gun store and we get audited about once a year. They have also gotten really nasty about very minor violations. I'm talking about crap like having black AND blue ink on a 4473. Really stupid stuff.

The first ATF guy that made the rounds to the local gunshops was an ******* from hell.

All the rest have been nice.
