in the past week or two i have been having a box come up in the bottom right hand corner of my screen that says avg email scanner. could anyone please tell me whats up with this.

The AVG email acanner is part of your AVG anti virus program. The box pops up when your email client or another program that the anti virus email acanner scans. This includes Java programs and maybe a few others. The AVG email scanner is not a problem it's just a very good anti virus program. Sounds like it's work like it is suppose to work.
