Here are several links for pistol competitions in the DFW area. Great people at all of these clubs. Check out the calendars on each, pick a date and go shoot the match. These clubs are always eager to introduce new folks to the shooting sports, and welcome experienced shooters to the area.
I shot an IDPA match at Terrel Rifle and Pistol club. Can't find the web address right now. But they made a newbie feel welcome and lots of good guy's up there. Surely someone here has a link for them.
