Can I bring >10 round mags to CA?

I recently (read: the last few months) purchased a couple of Glock handguns here in VA. Each has greater than >10 round mags (of course). I'll be making a move across the country to CA in the next few months and I am unclear as to whether or not I can legal take these magazines with me. Seems that although *new* sales have been suspeded there are some confusing rules as to what may be done with *existing* mags.

EDIT: changed "clips" to "mags"

No, you cannot import mags that hold more then 10 rounds.

Most people just disassemble them and bring the pieces in as "spare parts". Doesn't bother me a bit.

As of January 1, 2000, it is illegal to buy, manufacture, import, keep for sale, expose for sale, give or lend any large-capacity magazine in California.

You can not legally bring them with you.

If you owned 10+ round magazines in CA prior to 01-01-2000, you can legally buy replacement parts to repair any of those magazines.

If you did not own 10+ round magazines in CA prior to 01-01-2000, you can not legally buy high capacity magazine parts and manufacture new ones.

I wouldn't go so far as to suggest you break any laws, but this one is completely unenforcable and routinely ignored by everybody.

Did you ever visit CA prior to 2000 with those mags?

This is true. But, if you can hord all the 10 rounds MAGAZINES (not clips) you want, its not worth the one time you might get nailed.

Me and some other locals here have a bunch of 10 rounders. I am lucky enough to have some old Sig P228 pre-ban hi-caps. Whew!
