10-4, will do...which do you like better, by the way, USPSDA or IDPA?
What handguns do you shoot & recommend? I've got a Sig 226/.40 S&W (issue sidearm), S&W 5904/9mm, S&W 686.4", & two .45s, a Colt Officers, and a Safari Arms custom commander-sized "Cohort".
Whaddaya think?

I prefer IDPA over USPSA. Neither are tactically correct, but IDPA is closer. Both are just games. I would shoot the gun that I shoot best. Don't think I would fool with the revolvers. No one shoots them very much in IDPA.
My wife and I shoot Glocks. I use either a G35 or G34. She shoots a G34. Glocks and 1911s own IDPA. 95% of the guns used in SSP are Glocks. There is probably a 60/40 split between Glocks and 1911s at most matches.

Thanks, Joe D, the Florida bunch shoots on the 4th Saturday each month, will try to go and at least watch the next one if not on call that week-end...I doubt the boss would look kindly on me driving my State of Alabama vehicle into Florida to shoot!!Thanks for the info, and sharing your experiences and weapon choices, Ken

I'm thinking about the middle of October or first of November in the Montgomery area, make it as accessible for everyone...and not so blistering hot! (I hate shooting in hot weather)...I have a friend in the Attorney General's office that belongs to a club just east of Montgoemry, will have him see about the possibilities, dates, costs, # of firing points, consessions, toilet facilities...Any input will be appreciated, ie IDPA or IPSC style or APOST type...needd to figure if competition or just fun shoot, if there is a chsance of having a 3 gun match, side matches, long range shooting, etc.
I know we cant suit everyone, may just have to pick a date (will be a Saturday, probably) and see what happens. Will try to give at least a month's notice so everyone can try to make plans. Let me hear from you, FM12

Anyone willing to help?, especially in the Mumpgomery area? We will, of course, have to check the college football schedule!

Yeah, its going to be a trip for several, especially those on the gulf coast. I plan for this to be fun, maybe have t-shirts made, eat a lot and talk bad about those that didnt come!
Where are you in NE Alabama?

OK, this is what I need for you to do if you're really interested: Post back on this forum.
1:where you are, this will give me an idea of where most of the shooters will come from, and if we need to shoot somewhere other than Montgomery
2:The best three dates for a shoot, if you can plan that far ahead as for duty week-ends, etc, in October and November
3.The type shoot you're interested in as far as format(IDPA, IPSC, APOST) and any other matches we might could have, ie 3 gun, bug, revolver only,1911 match, etc.
4: There's going to be some $$$ involved, would you be willing to spend up to, say $20 for the costs incurred, such as range rental, etc.
5. If youd be interested in buying a commerative T shirt(s) at actual cost.
6. I personally would like for all shooters to be memebers of Glock Talk. Get anyone that wants to shoot signed up if not already a member.
I'm open to ALL suggestions and could obviously use some help. Since this is the first Alabama Glockerama, may want to keep it pretty simple. But, at the same time, some shooters may have to travel quite a distance and we want them to get their traveling dollars worth. Please email me at smith1@frontiernet.net with questions, ideas..I prefer emails rather than GT pms.
If most of the shooters are from North Alabama, might want to see about shooting near Birmingham, but I'm thinking that is about as far north as we could go, otherwise may keep the gulf coast folks from coming. If you have a range we could use, let me know. Just dont beat me up about all this, LOL.
ALSO...we'll need someone to run the range for the competition shoots, I have NO experience in that. When you see me shoot, you'll thing I dont have much experience at that either! I would also state up front, NO ALCOHOL on the range, period and amen.
I think this could be A LOT of fun, if we dont get too serious about it. We really dont want anyone getting mad, etc because things didnt go their way. It would hopefully be just a good day at the range for shooting and meeting new shooters with the same goal in mind: paying homage to the GLOCK pistol! FM12

Here's my 411.
I am in the Calhoun County (Anniston) area.
I don't much care what kind of shooting we do. I am GA POST certified, and as far as a set course, that is really the only shooting I have ever done that was timed/scored.
I have several different GLOCKs, I'll bring them all if I can come, and give folks a chance to handle/shoot models they have never shot.

I also live near Anniston (Talladega). GSD, maybe we can ride together and save gas money??
Anyway, Im all for any type of shoot. I've shot IDPA a few times and it was fun but I've never shot a 3 gun. I don't have any type of rifle for that. I've got a couple of Glocks and a Winnie 1300 defender but that's it.
Even if it is a formal competition, I'll still show up. It sounds like fun.
I Nominate GSD for the meeting president. someone to take charge and make this happen.

Not super familiar with 3 gun, what kind of gun is used? AR? I have a Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine M4A3 I could let you play with?
I'm also all for saving gas money!

Just shoot on of the IDPA matches. Montgomery or Birmingham would be pretty central for most folks. Not trying to be a wet blanket, but I really don't have much intrest in just burning ammo for no purpose.

It is OK to talk to each other during a match. Plenty of fellowship available. I think most folks are just afraid to shoot a match.

I am not picking on anyone - just trying to get more guys and gals into shooting IDPA or IPSC. I have had zero results with the local law enforcement community here. Those guys live in their own little "Macho Club". They have convinced themselves they can shoot. The sad fact is my wife can out shoot every single member of the Hoover PD including SWAT.
Heck I have even offered to pay their match fee. Those brave souls that have shot one of our matches usually finishes at the bottom. They never come back.
When we lived in Atlanta I trained dozens of LE guys and gals. Did it for free. You would think they would like some free help here - nope. The training officer, who can't hit his ass with both hands, never took me up on my offer to help.
Don't know why I got off on this tangent.
