Let me be the first to say I do appreciate the job the LE's do. It is a somewhat thankless job. I would not do it for the money paid. Most are paid less than teachers. I was a reserve deputy back in the early '70s. Seemed like the regular officers appreciated having another body in the car with them.
Guess that is why I volunteered my time to help them shoot better. Some of the guys recognized that good shooting skills were very important. I fully realize that the vast majority of officers will never be involved in a shooting.
A couple of guys I worked with were involved in shootings. I would like to think my training, in some small part, helped them survive.

Great outlook!

I don't think it is as thankless as everyone says. Sure, we aren't heroes like firemen , but there are plenty of folks that let us know we are appreciated, at least around here there are.

He wasn't trying to say anything rude, just that there is alot more to being a cop than shooting.

I'd be interested in a GT shoot. In response to your question FM12:

1. I'm in the B'ham area.
2. I could come almost any weekend except for Labor Day weekend and the third weekend in September (15th & 16th).
3. I'm not looking to compete, I just want to shoot. Besides my G27 & G23 aren't up to G34, G35, and 1911 competition standards.
4. I could easily stand $20 or $30 to participate, depending on how much it costs to get where we are going.
5. I'm a graphic designer, so I've got a ton of t-shirts. But make it cool enough and I'd consider it.
6. Membership is understood.

Sounds like a good time if you can get us wrangled together.

I'm new to this forum and just joined up tonight. I'm a LEO in the B'ham area. I looked around for a "new member" thread, but didn't see anything, so since this thread was local I thought I'd shout out here. G23 and G26 owner, as well as SIG P229. I'd also love to get together and shoot with some local folks if there's an interest.

Zhoucifu: Could you do the t-shirts for us? Maybe even design them and have them made? Thanks for the post, BTW! FM12

There's a tactical shop out on the Wetumpka hiway, cant remember the name of it, check the yellow pages...Also, there is a new walter craig store on N. boulevard, their prices are a little high though. Then there's Gulf States, but dont know if they sell to civilans (not knowing you status) I usually have a few for sale and am in Montgomery almost weekly, whatcha looking for?

AV Cop: Your welcome on the welcome! I work with Greg Wilkey, a retired Bham Fire Captain...he worked in the Fire marshal's office, or something like that did you ever know him? He now works for the State Fire Marshal's Office, as I do.

Name sounds familiar...I don't think I know him though. Anybody that can do their time here (in Bham) and get out has certainly accomplished something.

yup no problem, im only $200 short of my wifes requirements before i can start spending money.

only reason why i say those is because those are the only two she has ever shot before. im sure if i put anything in her hand that isnt a pocket pistol she would love it.

if anyone has spares to sell let me know
