Anyone shooting GSSF match July 7/8?

I've never shot one, but have volunteered to RO on Sat.

Info on the match and such at: http://gssfonline.com/

I went to the first one they held here (forget what year it was). It was pretty "ho-hum". I ended up winning $25 but they wanted my ssn to report it for taxes...

I didn't give it to them and haven't felt the need to go to another match.

You do get free crap though, it may be worth the trip to load up on stickers and pins to sell on ebay. They also had an armorer there, I had a chipped extractor and a worn slide stop replaced for free, those guys know their way around a Glock.

The course design isn't all that fancy, but I guess they could be setup almost anywhere. No reloads, no draws, etc. Just speed and marksmanship.

I've always avoided them due to the high cost. $35 to join GSSF, plus $25 per division entered. That's kind of steep for a cheap dude like me.

Yeah, I was expecting more of an IPSC type match which it defiantly isn't. I think your typical "Go to the range, stand flat footed, shoot paper" type shooters would enjoy it.

I kept trying to go too fast, I forget the exact scoring system but misses kill you. The good thing is that they break down the results into thirds and award prizes to the winners of each group. In other words there is quite a bit of luck involved (hence my winning a prize).

I think they award prizes amongst the ROs too so you should have a pretty good chance of winning a pistol or something.

So, what's wrong with being one of us "go to the range, stand flat footed and shoot paper" type shooters?

That would be cool, who couldn't use another pistol, eh?

They never called/emailed back to confirm that they wanted me as a range officer, so I took my kids swimming. We had fun & nobody got sun burnt!
