Just got stationed at fort lewis, washington; I feel naked without my Glock 30

Hello, I just got stationed in Fort lewis, washington, active duty, just got here yesterday, any decent gun stores and/or ranges around in this area, I will be off base if not at work most of the time. I have one good question, I have a TN Carry permit but washington does not honor my permit would i just get a non-resident permit or try to get a resident permit, whats the process here,is it the same as nashville, is it hard to get either or what to expect thanks.

Welcome

How long will you be stationed here? We have been shall issue since 1960/61. Any Chief of Police or Sheriffs dept can issue the non-res permit. It may take up to 90 days to process. Here is an example http://www.co.pacific.wa.us/sheriff/cpl.html

Or you can wait 90 days, then apply for the resident permit at the same places. Rights are identical for either. Non res may cost more, I am not sure.

Others will be along with suggestions for gun shops near the base. I would recommend Tacoma Rifle and Revolver (TRRC) as an alternate range. http://www.tacomarifle.org/ or you can look back on previous posts here and find a ton of range reports. Here's one. http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread....hreadid=511094 There are more.

I swear I read something about stationed soldiers could get CPL's quicker. Regardless, if you want your WA CPL, you'll need to head to the LESA building in downtown Tacoma to apply.

My favorite gun store is Mary's Pistols in Tacoma. Very friendly and knowledgeable, especially to soliders. Decent indoor ranges are The Marksmen in Puyallup and Bullseye in Tacoma. I don't have any experience with anything else, though I do belive range 9 or 15 on post is open for personal use.

Your military ID counts as a local ID. You are not considered a non-resident. You may have to show your papers proving you are stationed locally.
You can apply for a regular CCW, and you can purchace firearms as a local. There are no pistol sales to non-residents.

Where is Mary's Pistols?

I work in downtown Tacoma.

I'm a member at Bullseye Range. On certain days, military personnel shoot for free. IM me if you want to shoot there.

Active military shoot free on the 1st and 15th of each month too!

On Tyler... I had no idea. I can't believe I've never even heard of it before.

Takes usually 30 days in Pierce County.
