Why is IN so obsessed with the color pink?
I gotta know:
What genius decided to make the new drivers licenses pink? I know two people who had their licenses renewed this week and they have lovely pink stripes on them.
It's an even nastier shade than the handgun licenses.
It's too much for a straight male nurse to take...

It's not like we have ever had a rainbow colored license plate....
Or, served as the birthplace to a world famous singer that is attracted to children....
ahem, nevermind

My new license stinks. I moved, and changed the address. Under new rules, that means it is a duplicate license (even though I turned the old one in) and it has pink all over it.
On top of that, apparently I cannot get a state issued photo ID and a license anymore. Goofy security law. An illegal alien can get a driver's license, but I can't get a photo ID in case I lose my driver's license? Simply baffling.
Sigh...

Is this true? KSFreeman has posted several times he has both. Did this just change?

*forms arm letters* "Y-M-C-A . . ." Oh, wait, I'm posting now.
Yep, I always pay the extra coin and get both a DL and state ID card. I renewed mine in November of 2006 and have the lovely brown/sand and white license.

I'm surprised all the tests aren't in Spanish and they make us English speaking folks use an interpreter. It's not going to be long until Spanish is a required subject in school (if it isn't already).

KSFreeman is in for a nasty surprise. This summer, that extra ID has been outlawed. I own one (great for backup ID while flying, etc.). In getting my new license (I moved so had to change my address) I was told I technically have to surrender it. In Indiana it is now law that you can only have one ID.
Previously, for thirteen bucks you could have a backup State Issued photo ID in case of theft, etc. No longer the case. This will certainly stop all the bad guys in their tracks.
NEW LAW: I think it began to be applied in June. If renewing your license, do not mention your old ID or they will be compelled to ask for you to surrender it. I feel so much safer now.
*****************************************************
IC 9-24-11-4
Only one license or identification card at the same time
Sec. 4. (a) An individual may not have more than one (1) valid driver's license at a time.
(b) An individual may not hold a driver's license and an identification card issued under IC 9-24-16 at the same time.
As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.12. Amended by P.L.184-2007, SEC.37.

That is just stupid that you can't get an Id and a Dl. I was thinking of doing that once I went for my Dl renewal. I have seen lots of people do that just in the event they need two id's somewhere or lose one.

Bah, I have a bazillion IDs if you count all my carry permits.
So, you go in for an ID card and then go in the next day for your operator's license. There's all kinds of games you can play with bureaucrats.
Great, now IPDBrad will have to pull me over tonight and beat me within an inch of my life and confiscate my State ID card. You'll never catch me, coppers! I've got a state ID card and I'm not afraid to use it (I don't know for what, but I have it).

When State IDs are outlawed, only outlaws, like KSFreeman, will have proper identification.

You rebel! From your cold, dead fingers?
The folks at the license branch informed of the law. Upon discussion, the were not in support of the law. They made it clear that they should have confiscated my ID prior to re-issue of driver's license (address change). They "forgot" to check. They also suggested we write our State Reps, as they felt the law was stupid.
So... Don't ask, don't tell, and hope for "forgetful" BMV folks!

Get your official back alley State ID cards here!
I took a photo of myself in grad school with a sweet, young thing sitting on my lap while I am drinking a beer. I taped this photo on my library card. I declare this to be my new State ID card.

KSFreeman's blog, "My Life as an ID Card Criminal":
Day 76: Woke up at 5AM and went to gym. Got into gym without having to show ID. Thank goodness I avoided that trap.
Stretched out, did push ups, sit ups and then ran. Ran some forms and then jumped rope. Saw no police. Obviously IPDBrad was busy writing police reports or checking out college chicks at Butler and had no time to drive up and arrest. Somehow I continue to avoid the dragnet.
Went to court at 7:30AM. Saw cops at Java Roaster, for some reason they did not arrest me or shoot me with a Taser. Obviously they mistook me for Brad Pitt.
In courthouse all morning. Place is teeming with LEOs from the entrance on: Sheriff's deputies, city cops, state cops, detectives, deputy prosecutors--no one suspected my eeevil.
I'm now off to Subway for a turkey sub and then talk on the phone all afternoon with plans to take The Brunette to dinner and then drive to Sheridan to the gunsmith on Saturday morning, go to yoga and then exercise all Saturday afternoon. Sunday I go hiking, then shooting and then clear the desk at the office--ahhh, the eeevil life.
I don't know if I can continue like this. My life on the run as an ID Criminal is wearing me down. The conspiracy continues . . .

IPDBrad's Day 76.
Still sleeping at 5am
Still sleepings at 7:30am
Woke at 8am, went MTBing at 10am
Level of concern for KSFreeman having a state DL and ID...pegged in the red zone.

blog cont'd:
Am trying out several different disguises to fool the fuzz. Today I am attempting to pass myself off as a WASP yuppie small business owner=> http://www.kirkfreemanlaw.com/
This disguise seems to be working out well. I waved at a detective at lunch. He had no idea as I sat there "innocently" chewing my turkey sub that I had BOTH a State ID card and a valid Operator's License with in my wallet in my briefcase in my office. No doubt the SWAT team would be here by now if he knew.
BMV Special Response Team vehicle now pulling up to office. Fat bureaucrats smelling of cigarettes armed with M240s and tear gas guns. It begins . . .

Does the law specify a penalty for being in possession of an ID and DL concurrently?

Boilergonzo, Day 77.
Continued surveillance of KSFreeman is paying dividends. Suspicions regarding possession of two ID's have our eleven-man unit on full alert. Operatives have bugged his law office and have scouts at his routine hangouts, including a Subway, the gym, and a Yoga place. One agent has been lost. Peter Katic was undercover posing as a homeless wino, when the suspect darted into the courthouse. Peter acted quickly, and changed into court attire to retain visual contact. Regretably, we failed to notify the local authorities, and Katic was arrested for public intox.
We have documented evidence of several suspicious activities, including fixing guns for obvious assault, excessive fitness rituals (clearly planning for physical confrontation), and interactions with a Brunette known to be affiliated with dangerous groups (affiliations unknown, but the Mafia, Columbian drug lords, Michael Vick's dogfighting ring, Tastefully Simple, and Longaberger are possible dangerous gangs she may interact with). He has also been engaging in a behavior (behaviour...) we are investigating. He appears to be kicking rocks. Later today we will investigate to see if this is how he distributes crack cocaine rocks to other dealers while avoiding our cameras during drug deals. Of course, we could use the crack cocaine trafficking charges to hold him until the more serious crime of multiple ID's can be fully developed and charges filed.
Special Agent IPDBrad has been made aware of our progress, and has offered his assistance.
