Stick with the well known brands, Seagate, Western Digital, etc.
If you find an internal hard drive on the cheap, just buy an enclosure. I've got a couple different enclosures. 1, a Dynex (Best Buy brand), is very heavy, but works great(around $40). It has an old 80gig drive I had laying around.
The other, I ordered, and it doesn't seem TD carries it anymore. Its also been fine($29). I ordered it when I was able to get a 500gig WD IDE hard drive for $99 new. $130 for a 500gig backup drive, was a bargain(and still is a pretty good deal).
If you have to buy the drive and the enclosure, then its probably cheaper to just buy an external drive. If you have a spare drive laying around, or catch one on sale/clearance for cheap, enclosures are a great idea.
Hope that helps...
