Application submitted!!! It was not easy.
Hi,
New here, this will be my first post.
After three weeks of calling and stopping by my local police department I've
finally submitted the application this morning. What a PITA...I hope it won't
take too long for the permit to come in. Is there a local gun shop in the Northern
Jersey for me to decide what pistol I might want? I've already set my mind on a G19. Since I've submitted for two permits, I might want a second.
Thanks,
Mlee

Welcome!
I like Meltzer's in Garfield. Nice guys behind the counter and helpful too. Decent selection and prices are reasonable as well.

Im in central-south NJ. However Ray's in Springfield RT 22 is a pretty big store with it's own range. I picked up two permits recently myself, got a G23 for my b-day and now looking to see what Santa will do for the second one.

Rays has a very good selection, and the prices are not bad compared to some of the smaller stores Ive been to. They also have many used guns with good prices. Good place to just check out, then you can shop around and compare prices.

A couple of years back when I purchased my G19, Ray's pricing was about $100 higher than what I found at a local FFL. It is definitely worth your time to do your homework. With that said, Ray's is still an amazing place to visit & may have other bargains for the many other items they sell. They do specialize in LEO equipment.

on the G19c or generations of it. Anyone know at what
gen is the newest one?

Ray's definitely has a good selection but their service is terrible. They don't use computers so I doubt they have a website. During my past few visits the staff has not been very courteous. Try Woodbridge Auto Parts ( http://aaguns.com/store/). The web site doesn't show their entire inventory. They are also on Gunbroker under AAguns.com.

At the time I was making a purchase, I considered Bud's Gun Shop the price to beat - http://www.budsgunshop.com. Using them as a yardstick to measure prices, I stumbled across a FFL in my area that sold for $20 above his cost... whatever it is you were buying. So, it ended up being the cheapest bet. In the meantime, you can go into any firearms store to handle various firearms to help you decide what suits you best. Places like Ray's or Harry's have a nice selection if you want to look. Of course, firing the gun is another story. There may be some places that let you rent guns so you can try them out first. I am not sure who does that in north Jersey. I know that Shore Shot Pistol in Lakewood rents guns but that is in Ocean County. You can ck out the ANJRPC.org website for a list of places to shoot. Maybe you'll find something closer to where you live.
I would call every gun dealer around & get quotes over the phone if you are convinced that a G19 is right for you.

You have a ways to go before your FID card comes in, but if you don't mind coming down south a little try Harry's Army Navy in Robinsville and the Sportsman Center which is only about 10 minutes down RT130 from Harrys. Not sure which town that's in though. They are both pretty cheap and have a lot of stuff in stock. If you have any friends in law enforcement, Lawman Supply in Egg Harbour is absolutely the cheapes in NJ for Glocks, but you have to have or be with someone that has a badge to get into the show room.

Hmm..don't know anyone with a badge that will go with me.
My references got their letters already...hopefully it wouldn't take
too long after they mail it back to my local station.

If you are in Northern Jersey, you can try Ramsey Outdoor, www.ramseyoutdoor.com. Price is fair to good. Ray's price is high and not so friendly or helpful services. Good choice on the G19, you will love it! The second one could be a G26......Good Luck

xXxMLEExXx,
You are correct, the site does not show any firearms. However, they have them on display in both stores. I believe the main store is the Route 17 North location. They accept out-of-state transfer in also. Good Luck!

Ron, was a pleasure to deal with, extremely helpful, and knowledgable.
Went to the store in Paramus...totally the oposite.
Still waiting for the call or post card from my Police department.

Yes, I've heard of them, Thanks..
Might stop by this weekend.
Anyone know of a good dealer around North Jersey that sells
a G19 fairly cheap? Found a place that sales for $490 so far.
Looking for new.

$490 is a pretty good price. I live further south, close to Harrys and Sportman's Center and they are about $50 more than what you found.
Getting the FID card and permits are such a pain. I should have a G19 coming this week : )
You should have it soon, it took me about a month and a half.
