Ryan Gracie, dead at 33
Mixed martial arts' royal family has lost a member, although it was the black sheep. Mercurial tempered (and quite possibly insane) Ryan Gracie was found dead in his prison cell after being arrested for stealing a car and attempting to steal a motorcycle at knifepoint.
Ryan had a penchant for getting in trouble with the law and just generally doing stupid crap. He was last in the news after being hospitalized for accidentally shooting himself in the groin.
Ryan is the brother of MMA legend Renzo Gracie and cousin to Royce and Rickson. Ryan is survived by his wife.
Here is an actual article without the smartass quips I enjoy using.

I read somewhere else that he was in Jail for assaulting a 76 year old man with a knife. Hard for me to feel sorry for Ryan. Sucks for the Gracie's' though...this and the black eye from Royce all in the same year.

Gracie family fighter arrested for mugging
Mixed martial arts fighter Ryan Gracie was arrested on Friday for mugging and hitting a 76-year-old man in the city of Sao Paulo, according to the local press.
The athlete is a member of the Gracie family, which got internationally famous for developing the so-called Brazilian jiu jitsu.
The 33 year-old fighter allegedly attacked the retired man, who lived in a building next to his own, in the Itaim Bibi district, Sao Paulo's south zone. After injuring the victim's left hand with a kitchen knife, Gracie stole his car, informed the police.
While driving, he crashed into a phone booth and ended up hitting the vehicle against a road rail. Gracie left the car behind and tried to steal a van, but the driver managed to get rid of him.
After that, stated the police, he used the knife to try to steal a motorcycle from a courier, who hit his helmet on the fighter's head, while other bikers came to offer help. They held him and called the police.
The chief of the precinct where Gracie was taken stated that he will undergo tests to identify the presence of any drug in his organism. In 2000, he was arrested for stabbing a person in a fight in a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro.
The Gracies are also the founders of mixed martial arts tournaments, which started when the family's fighters defied fighters of other martial arts to prove the efficiency of their jiu jitsu, adapted from the original Japanese jiu jitsu. In order to include all the different styles, the challenges had no rules.

Ryan was sent to the 91st PD, after having toxicology exams done at the central IML at around 2:30 am. He arrived at the police station in Vila Leopoldina at 3 am. According to the officer on call of the 15th Police District police officer Daniella Ranna, where the athlete's case was registered for having tried to steal a motorcycle, he was sent to the 91st DP because it is a traffic station. From there, he would have been seen to the "most recommendable" location.
According to the Secretariat, at around 7am, when policemen at the station were checking the cells with their detainees, they found the fighter fallen in a corner. They entered and confirmed that he was dead. At around 10 am, coroners were already at the location to do the necessary exams and send the body to the institute.

Sounds like some form of cocaine, violent, psychotic behavior followed by "mysterious" death. At least they didn't taze him.

Hit him in the city? Dayum, that hurts just thinking about it.

"The principal feature of American liberalism is sanctimoniousness. By loudly denouncing all bad things — war and hunger and date rape — liberals testify to their own terrific goodness. More important, they promote themselves to membership in a self-selecting elite of those who care deeply about such things.... It's a kind of natural aristocracy, and the wonderful thing about this aristocracy is that you don't have to be brave, smart, strong or even lucky to join it, you just have to be liberal."
