Brass Knuckles

Are we aloud to carry Brass Knuckles with our CWL? Just curious becuase I don't want to get pulled over and then lose my permit just because I didn't know I could carry it.

I was able to find this.
---------------------------------

3)(a) "Concealed weapon" means any dirk, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon carried on or about a person in such a manner as to conceal the weapon from the ordinary sight of another person.

Wow +1! Finally someone got back to my post! Thanks! I was hoping I was in the clear if I told a LEO that I was carrying Brass knuckles. I didn't want to get my CWL revoked.

If I where going to carry something like that I would print out that section of the Regs and carry them in the car.

It may save you some time if some LEO tries to tell you you are in violation
of the law.

Good Luck, Court in FL.

Esco / Court in FL.:

Nope:
Quote:
790.06 License to carry concealed weapon or firearm.--

(1) The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is authorized to issue licenses to carry concealed weapons or concealed firearms to persons qualified as provided in this section. Each such license must bear a color photograph of the licensee. For the purposes of this section, concealed weapons or concealed firearms are defined as a handgun, electronic weapon or device, tear gas gun, knife, or billie, but the term does not include a machine gun as defined in s. 790.001(9).
Brass knuckles are NOT on the list of items authorized to be carried under the Florida license. Therefore, you could still be arrested for carrying a concealed weapon if you were carrying brass knuckles in a concealed fashion - even if you have a valid Florida CWL.

You got a 9mm. What do you need the metal knuckles for?

How do you think brass knuckles are gonna look in court? It's chess, not checkers. You gotta play for the endgame.

Well, I was looking for something that would be less lethal when I am attacked by someone in which I wouldn't be aloud to use my gun. I thought about pepper spray, but I have used it before on someone without it working. I could have sworn that in that Gutmacher Florida Firearm laws book, there was something in there saying you could technically carry them.

I decided not to carry them...Guess the guy is just gonna have to get stabbed or shot then . I don't want to have any issues until there is some kind of test case with them. Thanks for all the help and info!

Stabbed?

Your first weapon is your head. You seem to have a predilection to some kind of hands on encounter. Knives, brass knuckles, etc. You might wish to reconsider your defensive plan-pepper spray, removing yourself from the situation, not going to bad places, etc. Talking about stabbing and brass knuckles worries me.

Hah! Yeah...I have done martial arts and competed world wide since the age of 3. I guess I tend to lean towards hand to hand combat. The only reason I was talking about these is because I am still saving to buy my first firearm, so I only had those options for now. When I was talking about stabbing and stuff I was just messing around =P Hopefully I never have to use them or the firearm when I get it. I'll be sure to go get some pepper spray today and carry that until I can get a firearm. Didn't mean to worry you!

Brass Knuckles are considered a deadly weapon in florida, just like a firearm.

How can you say no? Court in fl quoted state law.

Court quoted the definition of 'concealed weapon' from 790.001. It's just a definition. Mr. Blandings quoted the definition from 790.06, which defines 'concealed weapons' for the purpose of concealed carry.

For information FL Statue 790.09 prohibits the manufacture or sell of a slungshot or metallic knuckles. So I would assume they are ILLEGAL to carry under any circumstances. OOPS, didn't think that sounded right....Googled it!

excelsior,

I also quoted Florida statute (state law). I even provided a citation so that others could research it if they wished to, Florida State Statute 790.06 subparagraph 1.

If it makes it easier for you here is a "hotlink": http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/...n%2006#0790.06

Sorry, I got to laugh at this one! No offense

While being held at gun point the best thing to do is say "Excuse me, I am just going to remove myself from this situation" and walk away..

I also didn't know that criminals and/or crime limits itself to "bad places"

I know what you meant, you just worded it funny as heck!!!
