Trouble Making Recovery Discs

I just bought a new HP laptop. I have been trying to make the recovery discs. I keep getting a menu that says: Error detected during disc verification. A new disc needs to be created.
I am using Memeorex DVD+R which is supported by the device. The DVD's are brand new, hard to believe 3 in a row would be bad. What should I do next? Thanks.

I was thinking to picj up a cheap HP/Compaq laptop. I looked in to the recovery disks before but I haven't made any as I don't have an HP yet.

Only one set of Recovery Disks can be created, and the disks are specific to individual PCs. The disks will not restore the operating system to another PC.

Doesn't sound like a disk error but sometimes I have to use different brands of disks.

I think the new HP's with Vista require two DVD's or one dual layer DVD.

Thanks for the links, I had read them before posting. I haven't found a solution to the problem at HP.
I could buy them from HP but I should be able to make them myself.

I am new to the DVD format so I did not know to get dual layer. The computer tells me to use 3 discs.

It transfers the files, writes them to the disc, and at 56% of verification says the disc failed verification and to make a new disc. I have been making coasters so far, what a PITA.

Okay maybe your PC requires three DVD's.

I may have to try a different brand, do you have a preference?

Call HP customer service and tell them that you are having trouble making the disc set. They will send you a set no charge.

I second Dyno's reply. I also just bought a new HP laptop. I had one error during the disc creation, but creating another worked fine.

For those that haven't done this before, be aware it takes forever to do.

It’s been my experience that DVD -R’s are less problematic when used for backing up data or burning moves. Also I’ve found that many older DVD drives and stand alone players have problems reading DVD + R discs.

Another thing … I'd stick to a name brand ... I've used Sony, Verbatim and Memorex ... whichever happen to be on sale when I need to stock up.
