Seikos.........

I'm really starting to like Seikos. I think I may become a Seiko collector with my grail watch being a Grand Seiko.

I mean, they're entirely in house. I really can't afford much of anything else with an in-house movement.

What do you fellas think?

Great OM! I'm wearing my BM as I type this. I'll get an OM soon. I love the Monsters.

I've seen them on evil bay, and in a few of the other watch forum for sale sections.

Seiko function is second to none. Pulsar is actually a seiko inside.

Orient's are in house as well, but I believe Seiko owns a controlling share of Orient now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Orient the ONLY Japanese "in-house only" automatic maker? I could've sworn Seiko contracts out and, in many cases, purchases their movements from Orient.

In either case, I own more than several Seikos (a few automatics, too) and in my opinion they're one of the finest values you can get--I even like mine more than the Orients I have.

You can't go wrong with Seiko.

Well, repeating what I've heard numerous times, no. Seiko is entirely in-house. Everything from cases to movements to lubrication is Seiko made. Orient manufactures their own movements too.

The two best watches in my Seiko Collection: The Marine Master on the right is a gem--equal in quality to a Rolex Submariner. (and I own a Rolex sub)

Hey, do the Marine Mater and Sumo continue to wind when you screw the crown in? Or do the winding mechanisms disconnect when the crown gets pushed in?

Nice watches btw.

They both continue to wind but this is of no concern. The spring has a clutch mechanism that makes overwinding impossible.

I realize that. My new 6R15 Alpinist does it. It is my first handwindalble Seiko. It caught me by surprise and I was a little worried about it, since my ETA powered watches don't do this. I did a little research and thought I found it may be appropriate for the watch. Just getting verification from you.

About the Marine Master, the single piece case is an issue with me. It seems odd to have to remove the crystal to regulate a watch. If this should be needed, are seals or gaskets easily aquired?

I'd say that realistically your best bet in terms of service with either of these watches is to send them back to Japan. From what I've read on other forums this is normally no big deal and turn around including shipping both ways is about a month...not bad and about what it took to get my Rolex serviced in New York.
If these watches are half as robust as my cheap Seiko divers I'd say I won't be sending them in any time soon...

I just got back from Maine - stopped at the Seiko Company store in Kittery and scored a Black Monster for $160. Now they sent me a coupon for 15% off. I guess I'll just have to get an OM now. Bummer.

I love Monsters. I want an orange to go along with my black. 15% is a heck of a deal to. Congrats on your purchase!

Thanks, CJ. Ya know, I'm liking mine almost more than my Speedmaster! I have an orange Land Monster, so I'll probably be getting something other than an OM nest time up (but on the other hand, I am known for impulse purchases, so... who knows?)

That's funny, I was just thinking I'd love a Speedy Pro. Since I love my Black Monster, I guess you just saved me a lot of money. No need for the Speedy now.

Whoa, hold on there. Don't get crazy. There's still a lot to be said about having a Speedmaster. It's like having a bit of history on your wrist.

Come on - you know you really want one.

AAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! I'm not listening....I'm not listening.

In all seriousness, I think if I had Black Monster and an orange Sumo and a Speedy Pro I wouldn't need anything else.
