Anybody here from Terra Haute?
I'm going to be making a trip to Terra Haute this SAt. First time I've been there. Any good gun shops in the area worth checking out while I'm there?

Not familiar with any gun shops but Gander Mountain on 41 South has a large gun selection. You will have to look very hard for any bargains. Take I-70 to Exit 7 (41) then it is only about 1/2 south on the East side of the street. Lots of places to eat along about a 4 mile strip.
Good Luck

Actually, of all the Gander Mountain stores that I've been to...The Terre Haute store has the largest selection and best prices on used firearms.
Their used prices aren't just good for Gander Mountain, either. They're "good" prices.
Caveat: I've only been to Greenwood, Castleton, Merrilville, and Terre Haute.

I should have stated that their prices on used firearms aren't that bad...especially for a GM store. Sportsman's in Lafayette is, evidently, THE place to go for reloading supplies.
Of course, driving from The Haute to Lafayette is a heck of a haul, especially with almost $3.50 gas!

If you're looking for reloading supplies, the best deal is to get a C&R FFL, send it to Grafs, and order a skid of powder and primers, they have great quantity pricing. When it comes LTL, no damn hazmat fees to worry about either.

I've been on Terra Firma but never been to Terra Haute.
Last time I was in SW in Lafayette, pistol bullets were nearly picked clean. Their small selection is where you have to stoop down to floor level, and some boxes have no caliber, just something like "38 Cowboy". Their prices and selection amply justify shopping on the internet.

I'm currently stuck in Terre Haute, maybe I can help some. Gander does have a fantastic selection but they don't have a good reputation here so I generally won't buy from them on principle. There are two other shops that I know of, neither of which is terribly great, but both have that "small town gun shop" feel to them and might be worth a visit. If you're interested let me know and I'll give directions. If there's anything else you want to know about TH let me know and I'll try to help with that too.

Am orginally from Terre Haute, but live in Indy now. Best bet is to do business with Bob at Plainfield shooting supply. Gander Mountain has terrible prices, and the other gun shops dont have much selection.

Very succinct and accurate description. You can sometimes find a used gun at Gander for a decent price, but it's a gamble as to whether it's going to fall apart in a week (from what I've seen). New guns are usually 100-200 over what you can get them elsewhere.

+1 for PSS. They have a good selection, good prices, and great customer service. They also have the best table at the indy 1500. And theres always some gunshop commando ready to tell you a descent story so you'll have something to laugh about on the way home.

Thanx guys. Bob has been my "go to guy" for almost twenty years now, you don't have to tell me how good PSS is! I was just going to do some browsing while in a differant town. Went into Gander, it was a laugh. Stopped by the 1500 on the way home and guess who I ended up doing a swap with? His name begins and ends with B.

I am from extreme southern indiana, but I am currently living in Terre Haute. Gander Mountain's prices are a joke. I was glancing at glocks and they want around 600-650 for new glocks. I noticed some Remington Golden Sabers for $45, I couldnt believe my eyes. The only thing Gander Mountain is good for is going in there and maybe holding some of their handguns that you are interested in. Go check them out there, and then buy them someplace else.

I did pick up a trade in G22 for 300$... so good deals can be had in the used gun section.
New gun prices however....

Sheesh! A g22 for $300? I would have bought it just to resell for $400 to the next guy.
