Now Authorized to Wear Medal of Valor
Just wanted to say how proud I am of the service I work for. We recieved the Service Medal of Valor for the actions taken during the March 1, 2007 tornado that hit our community. Only two people lost their lives that night, I know that is a bad way of saying it, but it could have been so much worse. I work with a great group that really stepped up and dug in.
We were hit with an F3 tornado that destroyed our hospital. We were tasked with getting all of the patients and staff out safely and getting them to other hospitals in the state.
They have now demolitioned the hospital and the temporary hospital should open April 1. It will take about 4 years to get the new hospital built and up and running. We made a makeshift emergency center in a local church basement that night, and stayed there for 4 days, until we could get a state sponsored tent set up for triage and emergency patients. For the last 9 months or so, we have been in a triple wide.
Anyway, you can read more about it by searching on Tornado, Americus Ga.
Just can't say how proud I am to be a part of this EMS.
