There was a Canon printer that had an accessory scanner head you attached that turned your printer into a sheet fed scanner.
But some how I doubt this is what you mean.
If you print a picture that means it is already in you computer somewhere.
If you can a picture it goes in to My Pictures as a default (usually).
Please clarify what you are asking and 'm sure we can help.

Most flatbed scanners can't scan negatives.
There has to be a light modual in the lid to allow light to pass through the neg.
Get some glossy 4x6 prints made of the negs (glossy scans better than matte), clean the scanner really well and scan away.
Should work perfectly.

The software that came with the unit that you installed, or should have installed includes a scanning feature. You use it scan and save the scan.

If the scanner lights up and the software indicates it's workng, the photos are on the computer.

If I remember properly, before I changed the settings, my scanner would put scanned files in a temp file. I think the default name of the scans it gave them were "TMP(nr)" such as TMP1, TMP2, etc. Maybe go to Start>Search> "all files and folders">(type "tmp" w/o quotes)>click Search
This may locate the pictures on the hard drive if they are there. If you can find the settings for where your scanner saves scans you might choose "Desktop" or "My Pictures". Some place you can find them easier. Then the next scans you do should placed there but not the earlier ones.

I have a J5750. I doubt there's much difference between it and your J5780.
Easiest thing to do is hit the "Scan To" button and click the arrow under the display window to select where you want the scan to go. Choose the destination, e.g. My Scans, Paint, Email, Photoshop, etc. Then hit the "Scan" button. Then you can open the photo wherever you chose to save it. If you choose "My Scans" it will appear in your documents folder. Piece of cake.

We are trying to help but the fastest way for you to learn the correct process for scanning pictures to your computer would be to crack open the manual … if you don’t have one it can be downloaded at …
