NRA Convention

I haven't seen anyhting about the convention and exhibits. It was pretty cool and we got to see a lot of cool stuff - new ceracoated slides from Lone Wolf, new Glock magazine rifles from MSAR, the Gunny:

Nice Pic, I didn't want to fight the line myself.

I did however pick up a shirt from the EAA booth.

I had a great time on Friday and Sat checking everything out. I picked up a Crimson Trace for my Glock 26 and sighted it in yesterday. WAY COOL.

I was impressed with the selection, thought the Taurus 1911 and Charles Daly AR were POS. The new Magpul / Bushmaster Rifle and DSA 9mm gun are very nice looking. I did pick up a few Glock pins.

I was disappointed the seminars were not offered more often, crowds were huge for Concealed Carry and Weapons of WWII.

I had a great time. I spent Friday in the exhibit hall. I didn't get any autographs, but I did get to fondle lots of great guns and gear.

I went Friday just by myself, Took my sons on Saturday, Worked in the USPSA booth Sunday. I enjoyed every day of the NRA national exibits. Talked about guns and shooting with people from all over the USA. Talked about gunsmithing with some of the best smiths in the world, Saw the newest guns and gear. All in all a great weekend. Not to mention getting to see Olly North, "The Gunny" , Tom Selleck, Jim Southerd, All just walking the exibit hall. The best was seeing my 9 year old get to meet the Gunny with a little help from some good people I know at Glock. better than going to the Shot Show.

I was standing second in line behind you! I had on the Marines hat, that the Gunny and Ollie North signed.

What gave you the impression that the CD was a POS?

I've got well over 2,000 rounds through a Charles Daly D-M4LE, and have 2 CD AR15s sitting here with me. What was it that made you think it was a POS, and what is your experience level with AR15s?

I've got a hard time buying the CD POS line, not only do they look good, but more importantly, the ones I've tested have been flawless in reliability, which is more than I can say for many AR15s I've departmental testing on or worked with.

I got to see the Gunny and was about 10 feet from Oliver North when he was interviewed.

I was really impressed with the display of guns and especially liked the speech by Mitch McConnell.

I saw the above mentioned AR's and wasn't impressed with them either.

Charles Daly AR15 POS
This is my $02.

I have several AR15s, Colt, Bushmaster, DPMS, and even two Double Stars. Most of all these rifles were at the show. Sure they can put out stats or make a nice video of a weapon, but pick them up side by side.

When looking at the CD pull back on the charging handle and then try the others. Feel the trigger and then try the other. Rock River probably has the best out to the box. Look at the fit and finish. Shake the rifle back and forth and listen for rattles. We weren't able to fire the weapon at the show, but if look at the CD and then go to another booth, the quality is night and day.

The CD to me was closer to the Stag Arms or Olympic Arms Plinker model as for quality. I am sure it you are looking for a $599 gun then it may be fine, but I don't think the CD AR is in the same boat as Rock River, DPMS, Bushmaster or even Double Star. I guess time and gun tests will tell, but as for handling them all at one show, Charles Daly was at the lower end of the scale.

As for the Taurus 1911, all you had to do is walk across the aisle and pick up either the Smith 1911, Kimber or Para and tell the difference.

This is the first negative comment we have received on any of our AR's and so far removed from what we have heard, and independent T&E's that have been done, that I don't think I should comment any further.

Like I said it is my opinion.

It also looks like you have a dealer drinking your koolaid. Like my PM said. Come to Knob Creek Machine gun shoot and let the public try it out.
Having a few tests with premium ammo and nice ranges etc. is one thing.
Shooting Wolf ammo out in the dust at Knob Creek is another.
Who knows I may be able to shoot X ring at 200 yards with your rifle out of the box.

The quote about my comment being the only negative so far???

First one I held was at the NRA show along with many other brands. Since your supply in the market is limited, time will tell if others feel similar.

Best of Luck. Hope to see you at The Creek.

moreammoplz,

I've done testing with fellow LEO (yes, I'm a full time cop and firearm instructor), and found it to be a better built weapon than others you mentioned based on courses I've both taken and taught. Granted, this is based off the 2 CD weapons I've used, and not a full hands on inspection of every weapon off their assembly line. Then again, not many people have with any series of weapons.

Perhaps you got it mixed up with another brand, perhaps you've got some other agenda, but in the larger scheme of things, it doesn't matter, you are as entitled to your opinions as anyone else. If your version of a good carbine is hitting the x at 200 yards, yours is much different than mine. Thats probably a better topic for the AR15 section.

This "dealer" doesn't carry the Charles Daly line up, but thats a nice try.

ETA- This will be my last comment in this thread in an attempt to keep it on track with the NRA Convention, I'm more than happy to discuss AR15s in the black rifle section.

I flew in to visit the folks in Danville with the intent to hit the convention on Saturday with my Dad and an Uncle. Come on down to Phoenix. It's a dry heat so it's not that bad. They are heading to AZ for the convention next year so they won't be the furthest coming.

Don't get me wrong. I love the desert and have been to Phoenix many many times. It's just quite a haul from here but who knows , maybe I will go west next year.
