Key word.... "rumor".
There would have been a crapload of paperwork done on it first, plus adopting a non-NATO caliber? If anything, they would have gone back to the .45 (still in the system).

Didn't a contract for a few thousand(s) new units recently get completed. If so, I doubt replacement is gonna happen anytime soon.
...and yea, they won't switch to a non-NATO round.

Not true. However, our military is purchasing Glock 9mm for the Iraqi/Afghan army and police. Some of the military personnel training these guys are getting to carry them while training the locals.
The Special Forces guys keep doing their own thing, but, so far as I know, that doesn't involve switching to .40 either.

Afghan Police are issued the S & W Sigma, not the Glock.

I just heard this myself. There is a guy on the snipers paradise web forum that said Delta force made the switch to Glock 22, and the members of Delta he has spoken to are not happy about it. The main reason for the switch was a higher round capacity.

It's my understanding that they've been issuing out a whole variety of pistols. Some units have S&Ws, others have Glocks, and others may have different pistols still.

I'm pretty sure the Joint Combat Pistol program is ongoing because the Airforce was turned down on new pistol purchases other than the M9 and told to participate in the program and $5 million budgeted for it in 2008.

The Glock 21SF is the only Glock in the running in the program.

Therre are still some officers carrying makarovs or other brands, but the standardized pistol will eventually be the Sigma.
