GRNC Alert 08-02-08:

Support S. 3167 - Veterans' Protection Act

Senator Richard Burr has taken an important step in fighting back
against the Veterans' Disarmament Act - a gun ban signed by President
Bush this year which, among other things, disarms military veterans
who have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has
introduced S. 3167, the Veterans Protection Act, which would restore
the rights of a large number of veterans who have had their rights
denied for being treated for PTSD.

The bill, whose full summary title is "A bill to amend title 38,
United States Code, to clarify the conditions under which veterans,
their surviving spouses, and their children may be treated as
adjudicated mentally incompetent for certain purposes," currently has
18 co-sponsors, including Senator Elizabeth Dole. Let's encourage both
of them in this fight.

* Contact Senator Burr: -
thank him for sponsoring this important bill.

* Contact Senator Dole:
- thank her for co-sponsoring this important bill.

* Pass this message along to your friends in other states and ask
them to urge their senators to get on board.

I sent them both a thank you note for helping make the Veteran's Protection Act a reality.
