How do you like the long forend? I love Tromix. Definitely on my short list of "to-buys."

I don't think the forend is really any longer than the original one. But either way, I like it.

Did it require an abnormal amount of monkeying or did you just take a while to do the work?

BC,
There wasn't anything weird that happened with the conversion or anything it just took a while to get it to the point where I could sit back and go aaah finished.

Also, I could never quite get used to the extra length of the 19 incher for HD so over the years I've experimented quite a bit to get it just right for me.

Throughout this whole process I've changed the furniture a few times, the muzzle devices a few times, tried different grips, different magazines etc.

With the barrel chop I think I may be finished... Maybe, maybe not... There may be a side folding DPH stock in the future but then that will be it. Maybe, unless I form 1 it and send it to Red Jacket...

To be continued... maybe?

Remington 870 Express Tactical I picked up this week at Dick's Sporting Goods of all places:

Tactical Shotguns

Took 4 employees to fill out the paperwork and 2 to bring the gun to the front of the store

Throwin in with my latest HD shotguns

I recently discovered the Winchester 1300. All I can say is wow... these are great guns! I have three now (two in possession - shown below) and a third on the way. The third one will wear a Speedfeed Birdshead grip and is a six-shooter, so it will be my smallest, lightest shotgun at 32" overall.

Anyway... here are the two I have now, shown with the shotgun that I have loved for years as my primary HD gun... the Mossberg 500. With these Defenders, my 500 is starting to feel a bit left out! Still love the gun, though.

The matte black 1300 with Hogue 12" LOP stock and 18" barrel is only about 36" long, with an 8-shot capacity... making for a fairly compact, high=cap powerhouse. Nice thing with the Defender mag tubes is that they are single-one-piece tubes, no add-ons or extensions. Makes them really smooth and solid.

I'm with ya DHart!!! I just scored a 1300 Defender in a pawn shop for $134, perfect condition with only one minimal wear mark on it. I have an old model 12, another Great Winchester!!

Teej... wow, that's an unbelievable deal you got. Half the price I paid for mine, which I felt was still well worth it.

The 1300s are outstanding guns. I have a Sears badged 1200 that is the smoothest, fastest pump I've ever shot.

His barrel is likely an inch longer than yours.

The 20" 590 holds 8+1. The 20" 500 holds 7+1. With spring and follower adjustment, the 20" 500 might/just/maybe be able to get 8+1.

With 18" guns, I think it's impossible for an 18" with full-length tube to hold more than 7+1. The 18" Defender gives 7+1, which is uncommon for an 18"er. Most 18"ers with a mag extension hold 6+1 (18" 870 for example without mag extension holds 4+1, with extension holds 6+1). The 18.5" Mossberg 500 holds 5+1 and is unable to accept an extension due to the method of attaching the mag tube to the barrel.
