Picked up a dell xps400 out of the trash...

Was riding thru town yesterday and noticed a computer sitting on the curb for trash pick up. Thought I would salvage what was left for a few parts. Very surprised to see everything was there and the only problem was a broked connector on the sata drive.

Replaced it with a new hd and installed xp. Works great. Does anyone know the history on this computer? It looks like a higher end machine. Has a gig of ram installed.

Thanks

There is a service tag number on the box (an in the BIOS) that will allow you to get all the info, go to ...

Sheesh, original owners couldn't even bother to take it somewhere to get it looked at??
Any half-competent tech monkey at your local BIG_BOX computer store could find a broken SATA connector.
Doesn't work, just toss it and get a new one...
Do they kick their car to the curb and buy a new one if one of the tires starts running out of air or something??

Oh and BTW congrats on the salvage find, hopefully it will serve you well since you know what to do with it .

PS- Put Linux on it

You're right, I shouldn't assume anything.
